4.peatükk TORM
Torm oligi kohal.
Meile tuli troopiline torm.
Kodused Eesti tormid on enamasti
ikkagi verdtarretavalt jaheda veega.
„Siin oleme! Siin oleme!“, oleks neist võinud ka mööda kõndida. Ah nad on ilusad! (Linnundusest
tuleb linnublogisse!)

Chapter 4 - The Storm
And it came, the hurricane called Lorenzo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Lorenzo_(2019)
It was raging on the Atlantic and its final destination predicted
to be somewhere on the Great Britain coast. We were lucky actually – Lorenzo went
by us maybe a 100 km, but it turned upside down another Azores island. We got a
tropical storm from South. The whole island was prepared for the storm and all
the windows and doors were tightly shut.
The wind blew all night and half a day, it was warm, sticky
with salt and extremely humid. It blew the branches and unfortunately all sorts of garbage.
Last night when we drove home we wanted to visit a local
grocery but it was closed. It should’ve been open but it wasn’t. Others were
also surprised. The shop was dark and the gas station next to it was also dark.
All the power was gone. We drove on to the next grocery and it was the same. All
dark. Like the storm was already there – half the island was without
electricity. Lucky the big supermarket was open.
But – what do Estonians do when there is a storm warning
and it is dangerous to go the beach? They go to the beach. To see the waves of
course.
We went to our home beach. It is difficult to catch even a
half of it was actually happening there. I also fail to find proper words.
The black-sanded beach was full of strange plastic garbage and some ruddy turnstones were finding food, I just hope they have enough wisdom not to eat plastic :(
The wind was so strong still, and incredibly warm, nothing
like here in Estonia at the warmest summer day. The air was salty and sticky. One
moment I was standing on the sand and the next I was in the water almost to my
hips. It was so fast and very powerful. The ocean therefore was touched :D It
was so hot! I’m sure I could’ve managed tea out of it :D It was very weird
experience, our Estonian storms with big waves are usually with freezing water.
3 green parakeets were seeking refuge in our garden, and I
finally got the chance to take some photos of them. They were very talkative. If
they would’ve kept their peak shut, I could’ve easily missed them. They are so
beautiful! (Birding is coming at my bird blog!)
I had to clean all my cameras with tap water and a tissue before we could go to our next destination.
And that is coming next time - see you next Sunday!
